Instructional Design and Technology Standards

ibstipi Instructional Design Competencies

INTRODUCTION

In the field of instructional design there are different standards that are necessary to ensure quality.   The ibstipi (International Board of Standards for Training, Performance and Instruction) provide standards based on employment performance.  IACET (International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training) is another type of organization which provides the standards for continuing education units.  At a previous workplace, the Learning and Development department became an IACET member to provide continuing education units to employees who completed certain courses.  This move addressed issues affecting Medical Management staff. Professionals in the medical field are required to keep up with their continuing education credits.  The Medical Management staff are responsible for monitoring and evaluating medical care.  Although obtaining the ability to provide IACET credits was originally for the medical management employees, we were also able obtain the credentials offer credits for some of my computer systems related courses.

In this presentation I would like to discuss both ibstipi’s instructional design competencies and IACET standards.     I will look at what they are, what they do, their history and the benefits they provide to the instructional design field for learners and professionals.
